Virginia Collier currently holds a position at Georg Mason University, in Fairfax, Virginia, where she studies Bilingual/Multicultural/ESL Education and is known as Professor Emerita. Her most well known work with senior researcher, Dr. Wayne Thomas, on school effectiveness for linguistically and culturally diverse students, got her spotlighted in both national and international media. The research conducted is said to have had a substantial impact on school policies in the United States and abroad. Both she and Dr. Thomas have also conducted educational leadership training for the men in woman of our nation's school systems. Virginia Collier is also is the co-author of the professional reference book, Bilingual and ESL Classrooms: Teaching in Multicultural contexts with Carlos Ovando. This book is also well known due to the comprehensive reference on research, policy and effective practices in U.S. schools for students of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Not only has she been apart of these two substantial books in educational society but has over seventy other publications in the field of language minority education. Her proficiency in Spanish and English has proven to serve as intellectual guideline for her work in the field of language minority through her three decades as a parent, teacher, researcher, teacher educator and doctoral mentor.
